Penn High School Rugby Club
We would like to thank you for your interest and support of the
Penn Rugby program. As always, your ideas, support and input are welcome
as we continue to build this program and sport.
The team started in 1995 and today the goals remain much the
same. The main focus is to offer a new sport and outlet to Penn
student-athletes. The program teaches the game skills, as well as its deep
tradition. Coaches stress the fun, education, and effort it takes to
continue the success of this young program has achieved. Players learn how
to become responsible for the teams entire budget of $21,000.00. All money
is raised by players through private and corporate donation which are used to
support the teams every financial need.
The team is currently 45 players strong. Penn has
qualified and participated in the Mens High School National Championships in
1999 and 2000. Both of those events were held in Provo, Utah. The
team hopes to re-build and return each year to this event. Plans in the
works include a possible spring break tour to New Zealand in 2001 and a tour in
2003 to the Rugby World Cup in Australia.
Penn Rugby is more than just a team; we are a family. We
expect our family to understand this game, its history, and future. Our
team is a leader of High School programs in the Midwest even at its young
age. Many copy our format and hope to gain our success. We have
quickly paved roads that others have yet to even discover. We owe that
thanks to our players, coaches, parents and the support of the community. Penn
Rugby is strong, will continue to grow and set new goals thanks to you.
Best Regards,
Coach Bart Bottorff
